My First Bingo Card + Quick Thoughts on My Bingo Reads

I found fantasy around the time bingo started last year and decided I would go for it. I had a lot of fun with it, and am eagerly looking forward to the start of 2021's bingo. Here are my quick thoughts on each of my bingo reads.
· Translated: The Carpet Makers by Andreas Eshbach; 4/5
o This book is formatted as interconnected short stories that come together to form a bigger picture and solve the mystery of what is happening in the empire. As such, I enjoyed some chapters more than others, but when looking back, each chapter is a puzzle piece to the complete story. It was really well done; not only a unique story, but also a unique way to tell it. Also counts for exploration.
· Snow, Ice, Cold: First Lord’s Fury by Jim Butcher; 3.5/5
o I read this in April and am writing this in November, so my memories are a little weak. Too much action and not enough character growth and interactions for my taste. Enjoyed the series overall, but books 2 and 3 were definitely the peak for me. Also counts for politics.
· Optimistic: Sourdough by Robin Sloan (hard); 1/5
o I think Robin Sloan is just not for me. I didn’t really enjoy Mr. Penumbra when I read it a few years ago either. I listened to the audiobook for this, and if I hadn’t wanted to use it for bingo, I think I would have DNFed it. I don’t normally mind slower books or slice of life, but I just didn’t care about the bread, and the ending was just too absurd for me.
· Necromancy: Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia; 2.5/5
o Again, I think this might be a case of not for me. I liked the story, but did not like the format in which it was told. It was too straightforward and formulaic. I never felt any real tension as they went from place to place and immediately accomplished each of their goals. I also never connected with or felt any real emotion from the characters. I’ve read that this may be intentional as it’s written as a folk tale, and these are common characteristics of those. That makes me appreciate it a little more, but I still wanted more from it. Also counts for ghost, color in the title (hard), and Canadian author.
· Ace/Aro: Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria (hard); 4/5
o I had never heard of this YA book, but came across it on a website that listed ace/aro books. There are five main points of view, and one of them is an ace teenage girl. I thought the world building was unique, the characters felt fully-formed and realistic, and the plot kept me engaged and wondering what choices would be made. I don’t have anything to rave about, but also nothing to complain about. A solid, quick, and enjoyable standalone read. Also counts for politics (hard).
· Ghost: Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh; 4/5
o I read both Silver in the Wood and Drowned Country and enjoyed both, but I honestly don’t have a lot to say about them. Novellas are not my preferred format—I always want more from them. The beautifully woven atmosphere was the standout element of this story for me. Also counts for color in the title (hard).
· Exploration: Piranesi by Susanna Clarke; 5/5
o Susanna Clarke masterfully creates a world that just feels slightly off, and the journey both the reader and Piranesi take to find out why is equally masterfully done. The pacing was right with little reveals along the way helping you feel like you are getting somewhere and that the story knows where it is going. I felt like I was there alongside Piranesi as he pieced together both his past and the mystery of the house. Also counts for published in 2020.
· Climate: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (hard); 4/5
o I’ve never seen the movie, but this popped up when I was looking for an audiobook from the library. I feel like I missed some things by listening to the audio, but I enjoyed the creepiness of the descriptions and environment, as well as the mystery of what is really going on. Also counts for exploration (hard) and big dumb object.
· Color: The Copper Gantlet by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare (hard); 4/5
o This was a fast-paced and fun middle-grade novel. There are definitely some tropes involved in the plot, and Harry Potter comparisons are fair. There is not a lot of depth to the characters so far, and I don’t find myself super eager to continue on with the series. That said, it is fun, there is potential to do something unique with the direction the plot is moving in, and I think middle-grade readers would enjoy it. Also counts for set in a school or university (hard).
· Book Club: A Shadow in Summer by Daniel Abraham (hard); 4/5
o I thought I was going to love this based on everything I had heard about it, but I ended up just liking it. I enjoyed the characters, plot, and pacing, but I didn’t feel any real connection to any of it. The world building was definitely unique, but a little lacking in this first book. I wanted more info about how the andat were bound and some of the cultural aspects of the cities of the Khaiem. Those things are expanded on more in future books, but I was really missing them in this first one. Also counts for politics (hard).
· Self-published: The Dragon’s Banker by Scott Warren; 4/5
o This was a quick read, and I really enjoyed the storyline of how a dragon would react to the move from gold to paper money. I wanted a little more character focus, but that’s just me being picky as the plot really did keep me interested.
· Epigraphs: Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb (hard); 4/5
o I read the entirety of Realm of the Elderlings in 2020 and man, oh man, did I love it. Assassin’s Fate is a unique series ender in that I think it makes every book that came before it even better in hindsight. This series is a masterpiece and I can’t wait to go back and read it all again. That said, I enjoyed Assassin’s Apprentice at the time of reading, but wasn’t blown away by it. I did immediately love Hobb’s writing style though. It’s beautiful without being flowery or over the top. Also counts for politics.
· Published 2020: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab; 3.5/5
o I’m still trying to work out how I feel about this one. V.E. Schwab’s books are very hit or meh for me. While the writing in this one was fantastic, I didn’t feel invested in the story or characters until about the last quarter of the book. I’m conflicted because it is a beautiful story, but beautiful stories I don’t feel a connection to (a la The Night Circus or The Ten Thousand Doors of January) are not for me.
· School: A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik (hard); 4/5
o This book was enjoyable, but for some reason I don’t have much to say about it. I enjoyed El as a character, and I really hope we see more of her friendships in the next book. I think the series has a lot of potential to get better with each book. Also counts for published in 2020.
· Book about Books: The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow (hard); 3.5/5
o You could almost copy and paste my thoughts on Addie LaRue here. Fantastic writing, but I didn’t feel a connection to any of it. I also expected the other worlds and exploration of them to be a bigger part of the story and was disappointed that wasn’t the focus. Also counts for number in the title and book club.
· Made You Laugh: Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton (hard); 4.25/5
o As soon as I saw the blurb on the front said “The Pride and Prejudice of the dragon world,” I knew I had to read it. This book was just plain fun; plus it had a plot, romances, and characters I was actually invested in. Highly recommend to fans of Jane Austen or other similar writers. Also counts for Canadian author and romantic fantasy.
· Short Stories: In the Penal Colony and A Country Doctor by Franz Kafka, Forego Quest by Scott Warren, Ten Excerpts from an Annotated Bibliography on the Cannibal Women of Ratnabar Island by Nibedita Sen, and Non-Zero Probabilities by N.K. Jemisin
o Forego Quest poked fun at a lot of common fantasy tropes which made it a really fun read. In the Penal Colony had me on the edge of my seat wondering where it was going. It was grotesque, but I couldn’t look away. Ten Excerpts was fascinating, and had me wishing the book the bibliography was from was real, so I could learn more. I don’t have any complaints about the other two, but they don’t stick out in my mind either.
· Big Dumb Object: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (hard); 4/5
o I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this. The social commentary was perhaps a little heavy handed, but I enjoyed seeing the journey that April went on as she shot into overnight fame. I loved the last quarter of the book and how everything ended. However, I hated the sequel, so not sure I would fully recommend this one.
· Feminist: Circe by Madeline Miller; 4.5/5
o Circe is a powerful story of a woman who has been pushed aside and underestimated her whole life finding her agency and place in the world, and I loved it. I did enjoy the first half more than the second. Once other people started arriving on the island, it felt more like vignettes than one continuous story. These interactions were needed to help Circe find her way, but I found myself missing her lone existence and story.
· Canadian: Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien De Castell; 4/5
o This book was just plain fun, but with enough intrigue to keep me interested in the plot and future installments. There are a lot of fight scenes in this one, which I will admit I began to skim some of them as the book went on. That’s not normally my cup of tea, but like I said I was intrigued by the political machinations and enjoyed the characters enough to keep me going through all the fighting. Also counts for politics and potentially made you laugh.
· Number: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemison; 3/5
o I feel like I missed something with this book. It’s been a while since I read it, but when I think back two things stand out to me: I went through most of it being confused about how this competition to become the ruler was supposed to work, which took away a lot from my enjoyment. I also didn’t buy the romance. I did enjoy the second one in the series a lot more, but the third one I dnfed shortly after starting. Also counts for featuring politics.
· Romance: This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone; 4/5
o I don’t get it, but I don’t think I’m really supposed to. I think the world and plot is purposely underdeveloped because you are supposed to focus on the characters and their love story, not what is happening around them. And it was a good love story. This is a book that you read for the prose, not the plot. This is one instance where a novella works better for me than a full-length novel. I think I would have liked this a lot less had it been longer. I appreciate it for what it is, but it is not a style of book I would pick up often.
· Magical Pet: Sabriel by Garth Nix (hard); 3/5
o I’m not sure what to say about this, because it seems to be a universally beloved series, but it was lacking a lot of depth for me. The bones were there, but I wanted more character (I don’t know anything about who Sabriel is as a person other than necromancer), more world building (I still don’t really understand what the difference between charter and free magic is?), and more stakes (everything Sabriel tried to do was accomplished on her first try). Not to mention the romance came out of nowhere at the end. Also counts as featuring necromancy (hard).
· Audiobook: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling; 5/5
o This was my one reread that I used for bingo. I listened to all of Harry Potter on audiobook for the first time this year. I still love them. Stephen Fry > Jim Dale.
· Politics: The Power by Naomi Alderman (hard); 4/5
o This book was brutal. I went into this with a very different idea of what would happen (I think I got it mixed up with another book in my head), so the direction it went in took me by total surprise. 5/5 for idea and exploring a theme very well, but in the experience of reading it, there were some points of view and characters that were just simply way more interesting to me than the others (I’d like more Roxy and less Allie). Also counts for book about books (hard) and feminist.

Reviews about the ebook:
- Sue:
I have looked through the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association ebook more times than I can count. It is not exactly something I could sit reading cover to cover however it is an excellent resource book for APA6. I actually waited until all the bugs were edited out of the previous versions before buying my copy as I did not wish to get all the updates and I did not mind paying the extra amount for it as it has been well worth the amount of documentation. I have gotten more information on how to ensure papers are correctly cited using the APA6 settings.
Something I was corrected on quickly was in the area of using certain punctuation such as et al during citations and ensuring resources are done correctly when there are multiple authors.
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association resource is highly recommended to anyone that needs it for writing papers. It is a must-have!
Nurse Ratched:
Let's face it when you want to spend money on an ebook, it should be pleasurable. However, in the case of graduate school, this APA bible is not only a necessary evil, it is a must. So glad I'm almost done. Write to my friends.
Brandt:
Let's get real, can we do that? How many people that reviewed the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association Ebook actually read it? Further, how many of the reviewers have actually done research proposals and submissions to journals that utilize the APA style?
Like many of the reviewers, I had an immediate aversion to learning a new style of formatting. I could have complained; I could have shouted contemptuous words of disapproval. Instead, I picked up the Ebook Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association and read it. Moreover, I practiced doing a variety of writing that encompassed almost every aspect of the manual. In this way, I challenged myself to come up with interesting and innovative ways to cite material, write clearly, focus on aspects of style, display research results, and properly credit sources. This all culminated in an acceptance and appreciation of the APA style.
While many students and professionals I know use online "reference builders," or worse, ask one of their peers how to format a particular reference, I always say the same thing, "take a look it's in the book"! Further, many of the same students, and professionals, that dislike the APA style are the same that have never read the book! That looks like a good research proposal. I think I will name it "Opinion or knowledge: The impact of taking the time to understand something before presenting an unjustified and untrue belief".
Honestly, I have used a variety of citation styles from MLA through Chicago. I have found that for the purpose of research in Psychology and related fields, this style fits just fine. I am satisfied with the context of the book and the ease in which I can find what I am looking for. I will keep this book on my reference shelf and refer to it often.
Now, I have purposefully made some errors in this review. Most of the errors can be found in Chapter 3 of the manual. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find those errors and practice the style. Who knows? Maybe, you will find how easily the style flows and develop a brilliant style of writing in APA that will rival even the best!
Happy Reading!
- TayMosby:
I do love the practicality of it being spiral-bound. Yet, as another user mentioned before, the pages are extremely fragile. I'm attaching a picture showing how the very first page was already torn when I got it. I'll have to take some special measures to protect the book. Other than that, it is a beautiful edition.
- Courtney:
This is a must-have if you do a lot of writing in APA format. Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association ebook answers every question one might have about writing in APA. It also gives numerous examples. Great book!
- Cctyger:
I have used several editions of the APA Manual, but the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association's latest version is very user-friendly and includes examples right inside the front and back covers which is so convenient. I will use this manual not only for myself but for my students as I teach online research courses.
- Dawn:
I never thought I'd find myself writing a review of the APA manual, but here it is.
My last copy of the APA manual is destroyed, with pages falling out and tabs to easily access the quick things I need while writing nursing school papers.
This edition is put together well with tabs to easily find what you need. The paper quality is very good, so hopefully, I won't end up with pages falling out in 3 years.
- Jul:
Mostly skimmed it just so I can refer back to it, but I am inordinately excited about the number of citation examples.
- John:
I purchased the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association ebook due to the spiral binding. I previously have a regular soft copy of the 6th edition and it began to fall apart within the first month of using it. The spiral version of this book seems as if it will hold up well with normal to heavy usage. Sections are also tabbed which is an extremely useful feature.
- Wassup:
Nice 7th Edition APA Manual. A bit different than the 6th Edition, but I am adjusting. The 7th Edition is a "must-have" for students of writers using APA.
- Readergeek:
I mean. it's the APA citation guide, so you get what you'd expect. But it's really laid out to give a lot of information in a really insightful and meaningful way that aids in retention. Also, it's really easy to navigate and find things when you need them for citation purposes for writing papers and such. Not bad for resource materials.
- CustomeR7:
I live and die by this manual. It is exactly what it says it is. I love the spiral and tabs.
- James:
A standard reference used far more widely than the title implies, this is a handy guide to all the nitpicking format questions that come up in a lot of academic and professional writing situations. A tool every writer should have on the shelf.
- Lindsay:
Far exceeded expectations. I just needed a comprehensive guide for APA referencing. This goes above and beyond and anyone embarking on a degree will benefit from having a copy. Additional guidance on unbiased language and concise writing have proven really useful. Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association book leaves no stone unturned, even explains how to reference notes from your uni lectures and seminars without the need to find the original reference material used in the presentation.
- Rendina:
Everything you need to know about proper APA format. You know you want to read the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association!!
- Melanie Olson:
An absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who writes: students, practitioners, etc. I use mine just about every single day! Well organized, and information is easy to find.
- James:
This is the definitive manual for APA writing. It is difficult, however, for a student to master this style and write a dissertation at the same time. Therefore do not hesitate to hire an experienced editor to proofread your manuscript for APA compliance. I have edited hundreds of APA dissertations over the past several years and will be happy to perform a sample edit.
- Carmen:
If you're studying psychology and/or have to write assignments/articles in APA style this is what you're looking for.
- Laura:
A very useful reference for APA style. The information can be found through online resources, too, but it's been worthwhile having a copy on my bookshelf
- Stacie:
While forced to read this book for graduate school, the text was easy to read and laid out a useful way to communicate in scientific publications.

Job 42 - the Hollywood Ending

JOB
Chapter Forty-two –[The] confession of ’eeYOB [Job]
-1. And answered, ’eeYOB, [את, ’ehTh (indicator of direct object, no English equivalent)] YHVH, and he said,
“In the MT [Masoretic Text, the authorized Hebrew Bible] three phrases are interjected (vv [verses] 3a and 4), two of them are quotations from 38:2, 3b; the third is ‘Listen now, while I speak.’ The NAB [the New American Bible] omits these phrases, with most commentators… as marginal annotations.” (Murphy & MacKenzie, 1990, p. 488)
-2. “I [qere (read for misspelled word)] knew that [כי, KeeY] all you are able,
and cannot be thwarted [יבצר, YeeBahTsayR] from you a plan.
-3. Who is it hiding [מעלים, Mah`LeeYM] counsel without knowledge?
“This is a quotation from the first discourse of Yahweh (38:2)…” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1191)
“Therefore [לכן, LahKhayN] I told and did not understand,
[more] wonderful than I, and I do not know.
-4. Hear, if you please, and I will word,
I will ask you, and make known to me.
“Job may be repeating to himself the words which God has pronounced and which linger in his subconscious mind as an indicting echo… (cf. [compare with] 38:3).” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1192)
-5. “To hearing, an ear; I heard you,”
“Most commentators are inclined to discern in this verse the supreme lesson of the book. Throughout the poetic discussion Job has displayed almost as pedantically as his three friends an academic knowledge of the Deity. He has come closer to the truth than they because he had been accustomed to sense the divine communion in highly personal terms; but his certainty of God’s presence has been poisoned by the seemingly unjust fate inflicted upon him. In his frantic search for a formula which would at once preserve the justice of God and his own righteousness, Job was led to explore some alleys of thought down which other adventurers of faith were to follow him (see 9:33; 16:19; 19:25-26) but even there he was hitting his head against various walls, for the God of whom he had heard was largely the product of man’s calculating imagination and a projection of man’s ideas of morality and justice upon an infinite realm. His knowledge of God proceeded from the hearing of the ear, the tradition of the wisdom schools, the testimony of the ancients, the word of the fathers. His religion had been inherited: it was of the secondhand variety.” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1192)
and now [ועתה, Ve`ahThaH] my eye sees you,”
But now, through an immediate confrontation of God which the poet described by using the motif of the voice from the whirlwind, the hero’s knowledge of religion proceeds from an entirely different source; and the only way in which he is able to express this intrinsically new reality is to say, My eye sees thee. The wise man has become a prophet (cf. Isa. [Isaiah] 6:5). And like a prophet, who sees a holy God, he is thrown into the grip of self-abhorrence and the awe of self-destruction. Thus vs. [verse] 5 is indissolubly bound to the following lines.” (Terrien, 1954, pp. III 1192-1193)
-6. “Therefore I am fed up,
Wherefore I abhor myself... too weak for the difficult Hebrew word אמאס [‘ehM‘ahÇ]. This verb is not the transitive מאס [Mah‘ahÇ], ‘to despise’ but the intransitive parallel of מסס [MahÇahÇ] ‘to flow,’ to melt’… meaning here, ‘I melt into nothingness,’ ‘I sink into the abyss of nought’… The matter is qualitatively different from one of retraction or even of self-despising.” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1193)
and grieve [ונחמתי, VeNeeHahMTheeY] upon dust and ash.”
“Job can not be saying that he is sorry for his sins… the whole tenor of the book is against such a view. Neither is it clear that he ‘repents’ of his more outrageous statements in the debate. The verdict of the Lord in 42:7 is that Job spoke ‘rightly.’” (Murphy & MacKenzie, 1990, p. 488)
“Repent of what? ... of the monstrous crime of having condemned his Creator…
“Job is no longer egocentric. His ego – and therefore his desire for righteousness – is annihilated, and thus he is able truly to repent. …
“… he repents not from moral guilt, but from a reckless display of distrust. God, whom he accused of acting as a drunken foe, has taken upon himself the gracious initiative of revealing himself in all the glory of the Creator and Ruler of nature. Job will not approach this God ‘as a prince’ (31:37). He will take his place in the cosmos …
“To be sure, the poet’s terminology is not sophisticated enough for the formulation of such a truth… Yet it is hard to imagine a poet and a theologian of his caliber limited by immaturity of expression. It is therefore preferable to suppose that he respected the psychology of theological awe and knew so well the experience of holiness that he restrained himself from making his hero artificially and distastefully loquacious” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1193)
............................................................................................................................
The Name [ה', Hah’] admonishes [נוזף, NOZehPh] in [the] neighbors of ’eeYOB
-7. And it was after, worded [את, ’ehTh] YHVH the words the these unto ’eeYOB,
“This clause ignores the hero’s confession (42:1-8), a fact which may indicate a discrepancy of authorship.” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1194)
and said YHVH unto ‘ehLeeY-PhahZ ["My God is Refined Gold", Eliphaz] the ThaYMahNeeY [Temanite],
“Heated is my fury in you and in your two companions,
for you did not word unto me correctly like my slave ’eeYOB.
“… the topic urged by his friends, and which they push a great deal too far, that God rewards and punishes in this world, tends, in its consequence, like that other opinion which was held by the Stoics in after times, that virtue is its own reward, to sap the very foundation of that proof we have from reason, of another life.” (Adam Clarke, 1831, p. II 882)
-8. “And now take to you seven bulls and seven rams,
and go unto my slave ’eeYOB,
and ascend an ascension for your sakes,
and ’eeYOB, my slave, will pray upon you;
for if his face I raise without doing with you punishment [נבלה, NeBahLah]… [ellipses implied in the text],
for you did not word unto me correctly like my slave ’eeYOB.”
-9. And they took, ’ehLeeY-PhahZ the ThaYMahNeeY and BeeLDahD [Bildad] the ShOoHeeY [Shuhite], TsOPhahR [Zophar] the Nah`ahMahTheeY [Na‘amite],
and they did as that worded unto them YHVH,
and lifted, YHVH, the [את, ’ehTh] face of ’eeYOB.
“… it is remarkable that the author of the story extols the intercessory power of Job exactly as Ezekiel does when he mentions Job in association with Noah and Daniel (Ezek. [Ezekiel] 14:14, 20; the fact that the prophet suggests the ineffectuality of these three ancient figures’ intercessory power neither proves nor disproves that the author of the Joban epilogue was ignorant of the Ezekiel statement). Yahweh hopes that he will not be compelled to inflict upon the friends any ‘harsh treatment’ or ‘disgrace’ (נבלה [NeBLaH], lit. [literally] folly…)… Observe that there is no mention of Elihu.” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1195)
......................................................................................................................................

The after of ’eeYOB and his restoration [ושיקומו, VeSheeYQOMO]
-10. And YHVH restored [שב, ShahB] the [את, ’ehTh] restoration [שבות, ShahBOoTh] of ’eeYOB in his praying on behalf of [בעד, Be`ahD] his neighbors,
“There is here an approach to the idea of vicarious atonement, developed further in the fourth Servant song (Isa [Isaiah] 52:13-53:12). If Job is such an effective intercessor, it is partly because of the sufferings he has borne.” (Murphy & MacKenzie, 1990, p. 488)
and added, YHVH, [את, ’ehTh] all that was to ’eeYOB, to double [למשנה, LeMeeShNeH].
-11. And came unto him all his brothers and all his sisters, and all his acquaintances before him, and they ate with him bread in his house,
and mourned [וינדו, VahYahNooDOo] to him and compassioned [וינחמו, VahYeNahHahMOo] with him upon all the evil that brought, YHVH, upon him,
and gave to him, [each] man, coin [קשיטה, QeSeeYTaH], one,
and [each] man, nose-ring gold, one.
“A kesitah… was a piece of uncoined silver (cf. Gen. [Genesis] 33:19; Josh. [Joshua] 24:32) which represented the price of a small ‘ewe’ … The ring of gold was for the nostrils (cf. Gen. 24:22, 47…) Such gifts were symbols of courtesy and friendship.” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1196)
-12. And YHVH blessed the after of ’eeYOB [more] than his beginning, [מראשתו, MayRay’SheeThO],
and there were to him fourteen thousand sheep,
and six thousand camels,
and a thousand yoke [צמד, TsehMehD] ox,
and a thousand she-asses [אתונות, 'ahThONOTh].
-13. And there were to him seven sons and three daughters,
-14. And he called [the] name [of] the one YeMeeYMaH [“Dove”, Jemimah],
and [the] name [of] the second QeTseeY`aH [“Cinnamon”],
and [the] name [of] the third KehRehN HahPOoKh, [“Horn of the Eye-Shadow”, Keren-happuch].
-15. And were not found women beautiful as [the] daughters [of] ’eeYOB in all the land. And gave to them, their father, inheritance among their brothers.
“… the author appears to be exceptionally profeminist: he records the names of the girls… but he ignores those of the boys; he stresses the girls’ extraordinary beauty; and he tops his account with the unique detail, And their father gave them inheritance among their brethren (vs. 15; cf. Num. [Numbers] 27:1-11, which allowed inheritance to daughters only when there was no son).” (Terrien, 1954, pp. III 1196-1197)
-16. And lived, ’eeYOB, after this, a hundred and forty year[s],
and he saw his sons, and sons of his sons, four generations.
And died, ’eeYOB, old and hoary [of] days.
“The interpreter has the right to conjecture that the poet borrowed as the setting of his theological meditation a folk tale which was already in the public domain…” (Terrien, 1954, p. III 1197)

Study Aids
The New Bantam-Megiddo Hebrew & English Dictionary, by Dr. Reuven Sivan and Dr. Edward A. Levenston, New York, 1975. I had misunderstood my brother to say that he got through seminary Hebrew with just this (plus his fluency); in fact it got him through Hebrew in undergraduate school. I update it from the other dictionaries. Its pages have fallen away from the glue that bound them; this is my third copy. Part of my original plan had been to be able to go into Sunday School armed only with my annotated Hebrew Bible and a pocket dictionary. Unless you have a similar plan, forget this and use instead,
Compendious Hebrew-English Dictionary, Comprising a Complete Vocabulary of biblical, Mishnaic, Medieval and Modern Hebrew, complied by Reuben Avinoam (Grossmann) in collaboration with H. Sachs, revised and edited by M. H. Segal, The Dvir Publishing Co. Tel-Aviv, 1950. Part of a three volume set (the others being English-Hebrew and a supplement). A hand me down from dad. It used to be my first recourse when the pocket dictionary fails me; nowadays I just go directly to it.
The Interlinear Bible, Hebrew, Greek, English, With Strong’s Concordance Numbers Above Each Word, Jay. Green, Sr., Hendrickson Publishers. A gift from my parents. Essential, but even the pocket dictionary has a better binding, so see if you can find a better one.
The Comprehensive Concordance of the Bible: Together With Dictionaries of the Hebrew and Greek Words of the Original, With References to the English, by James Strong, Mendenhall Sales, Inc. Also a gift (or appropriation) from my parents. Excellent binding. A most curious introduction. Lacks perfection; when the number is wrong, you’re really stuck. There is one word in II Chronicles for which I never did find a definition. Way out of date; a concordance is essential, according to my cousin, Dr. John Cook, one should consider Mandelkern’s.
ספר הבריתות, תורה נביאים כתובים והברית החדשה [ÇePheR HahBReeYThOTh, ThORaH NeBeeY’eeYM KeThOoBeeYM VeHahBReeYTh HeHahDahShaH] – “The Book of the Covenants: Law, Prophets, Writings, and the New Covenant”] The Bible Society in Israel, Jerusalem, Israel, 1991. Easy to read “Arial” type font. Will survive anything short of untrained puppies. My second copy, a gift from Joy; the one I read and annotate. The back finally broke so I had it re-bound in blue leather by Jim Strawn of Smythe Books, LLC – beautiful work.
המלון החדש [HahMeeLON HeHahDahSh – “The New Dictionary”] by Abraham Even Shoshan, a Hebrew-Hebrew dictionary in seven volumes, Sivan Press Ltd., Jerusalem, Israel, 1970 – The gold standard, given to me by Mom; sorry Homer.

The Tree Of Life #qabalah #kabbalah #hermeticqabalah
In the time when magic had a bad reputation, Israel Regardie viewed it as a definite scientific system and a profoundly spiritual form of life. In his early twenties (24), he took the responsibility of ensuring that it available to an extensive audience of enthusiastic spiritual seekers. He wanted to elaborate on the basic principles universal to all superstition, notwithstanding of any spiritual course or a particular custom.
The outcome was what presents a huge amount of different material in the notably unified whole- the tree of life. Since its first publication, the book has maintained a high rate of demand owing to its accomplished blend of classical wisdom and contemporary magical background.
The great work has been diligently edited by veterans of the famous Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn– who strived individually with him. The matter has been defined with commentary, annotations, and informative notes. A brand-new introduction, bibliography, glossary, index, and a treasure of fashionable illustrations exist.

Not much is widely known about the symbology ascribed to the Tree of Life during the Assyrian civilization, just that it was hugely important. In most of the famous art, the king or other entities were depicted as caring for the tree with special attention, and it had an important spiritual significance. Most experts theorize that it was a symbol of creation.
“The Tree of life remains a work that would be hard to celebrate too profoundly; there is no doubt that it is going to be one of the masterpieces of occultism.”
Israel Regardie’s career was so successful and famous that he later became recognized as the man who eliminated the extreme secrecy that surrounded modern occultism and rendered the magical works of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn available to all spiritual enthusiasts. Before his death, Israel Regardie was regarded by many people as one of the chief caretakers of the Golden Dawn culture, a drift of magic and spiritual system that drew many notable occultists of late 19th and early 20th centuries, comprising of Samuel L. MacGregor Mathers, Dr. William W. Westcott, Arthur Edward Waite, Aleister Crowley, and William Butler Yeats.
The tree of life is acknowledged by many people as one of the very detailed releases on magic ever documented. More so, it remains an excellent foundation to the subject. Although Crowley had earlier attempted to compose magical writings that were considered readable and easily understandable, he never managed to achieve what was achieved by The Tree of life. On the other way, Regardie’s text is usually termed as necessary for learning the more complex writings of Crowley.
According to Francis King and Isabel Sutherland in The Rebirth of Magic:
As per Isabel Sutherland and Francis King, Crowley wrote with exceptional precision and coherence on yoga yet is completely magical works are considerably difficult to a reader who is not furnished with full concept of Mather’s Qabalistic practice, the customs of the popular Golden Dawn as well as the experiences of Crowley’s personal life.
“The learner got it where the master had lost. Regardie, in 1932, wrote two books, A Garden of Pomegranates and The Tree of life. Many people regarded them as minor occult classics. “We are happy to present this recently annotated and adorned version of Regardie’s excellent text, The Tree of life. For the reader’s benefit, we have added chapter titles. Again, the entire endnotes are ours. Although the past releases of The Tree of life had a bit of illustration, some additions have been supplemented to this latest version. Further, we have added a bibliography, a detailed glossary as well as an index.
With The Tree of life, the reader will find a far-reaching examination of the customs of the Western mystic cultures in addition to a bird’s eye glimpse into the philosophy behind those works. In the introduction to his second release, Regardie put down that: “This book has unique significance for me that neither of my other writing ever had.” Going as per this evaluation we wholeheartedly agree, for The Tree of Life has exceptional significance for us too. In particular, out of his all books, The Tree of life appears to denote that bizarre quality of writing that we have never failed to be recognized. Among the pillars of this work is his passion to involve the reader with motivation, his appreciation of divine invocations and mystical poetry, and his insight of the pleasure in the spiritual search for connection with the divine and at the top of all, the selfless desire to bestow what he has learned with others. To be precise, The Tree of life is a precious resource that will make whoever reads it more affluent spiritually.

Sectarian mathematician as an existential threat to Russia

Annotation. The author examines the situation of a fundamental scientific discovery made by an "unrecognized sectarian [in Russia this word is used to denote a religious cult]" and the possibility of rejection of his formulas by the Russian (scientific) community, which, according to the author, can lead to a "missing component" in Russian exact science, and, as a consequence, to a catastrophic lag in Russian science, education, and as a result of technology, labor productivity, economy and living standards. An analogy is drawn with the discovery of the theory of relativity by Einstein who lived in Nazi Germany. Such a situation really takes place with the author himself, which, according to the author, poses a real and existential threat to Russia. Possible measures for treating this "allergy" are given. Keywords. Religion in Russia, sect, sectarian, Russian science, Russian education, existential threat, interreligious hatred, religious discrimination, Russian fascism, science and religion, religion and science, public opinion, propaganda. 1 Introduction Consider a situation: a society in a part of the world (for example, a country) peremptorily does not accept the views, positions, and reputation of one of its members. This person has made a fundamental scientific discovery. Could this lead to that society will consciously or unconsciously reject his ideas, or it would be “forced” to reject by shame, contempt, moral differences, hatred, and as a result will lose one of the fundamental elements of science? Could the loss of a small part of the exact sciences lead to a catastrophic lag? This situation has really happened in the past with Albert Einstein, who discovered the special (and later also general) theory of relativity in Nazi Germany, which rejected Einstein because of his Jewish origin. Perhaps this was one of the key factors behind Germany's defeat in World War II, since the “absence” of special relativity makes it impossible to develop nuclear weapons. I argue that a similar situation was repeated in post-Soviet Russia. 2 The real situation at a glance I, Porton Victor Lvovich, is born in Perm, currently a citizen of the Russian Federation and Israel. During my first year at Perm State University, I discovered my first new fundamental mathematical formula (more precisely, a new axiom or definition[1] ), which I now call the definition of a funcoid. In the future, based on this formula, I have developed a few hundred pages of fundamental mathematical theory, which I called "algebraic general topology" [1]. In addition, I also developed another (not directly related to topology) fundamental theory, which I called the "axiomatic theory of formulas" [2] . [Notes to the Editor: It may be necessary to postpone the publication of this article until my newer results are published so that there are more relevant bibliographic references.] At the age of 15, I finally converted to the Protestant faith (at that time in its Baptist version). Soon after my conversion, I came to the conclusion that I should call myself a sectarian [the Russian word for a non-“Orthodox” cultist] and religious fanatic. This led to major problems: hunger and beatings. At the moment I live in Israel. 3 Fundamentality and importance of discoveries I will list my main fundamental mathematical discoveries: • definition (and properties) of a funcoid • definition and properties of the so-called filtrators • definition of such things as the action of a partially ordered semigroup, the action of a partially ordered precategory, "space" and "interspace" as an element of such semigroups and precategories ("space in general" in the framework of general topology) • definition and properties of generalization of the limit, defined for an arbitrary function at all points • definition of the basic properties of "point-free funcoids" - generalizations of funcoids • definition of the main properties of "multidimensional" generalizations of funcoids and pointless funcoids • axiomatic description of "infinite formulas" I've also done a number of other (less important) mathematical discoveries related to the above. A feature of the above discoveries is their extraordinary fundamentality for mathematical discoveries made at the end of the 20th and 21st centuries. Namely: • In one of the equivalent definitions (a predicate of two variables δ that is false on empty arguments on sets conforming to the axioms A ∪ B δ C ⇔ A δ C ∨ B δ C and C δ A∪B ⇔ C δ A ∨ C δ B ), the description of the funcoid is comparable simply to the definition of the group, if not simpler than it. Let me remind you that the concept of a group is one of the most fundamental and important concepts in modern mathematics. The funcoid generalizes and simultaneously contains (pre)topological spaces, (quasi)proximity spaces, and (directed) graphs. • The definition of a filtrator is even simpler: a filter is a pair of a partially ordered set and a subset of it (with the induced order). • Surprisingly, the actions of partially ordered semigroups and precategories were not investigated (this concept was not found at all on the Internet) before me. My "space in general" generalizes and contains at least all kinds of spaces of general topology: funcoids ((pre)topological spaces, (quasi)proximity spaces, as well as (directed) graphs), (quasi)uniform spaces, (quasi)metric spaces, locales, and frames. • The generalization of the limit for an arbitrary function makes it obvious the definitions of the derivative and integral of an arbitrary function, the sum of an arbitrary series, which makes possible a new branch of functional analysis that studies hitherto unknown properties of nondifferentiable and discontinuous functions. • The axiomatic description of formulas is also not inferior in simplicity to the definition of a group. The importance of the discoveries: • Obviously, fundamental mathematical discoveries are important. • Algebraic general topology is a breakthrough (and beyond) in research in the field of general topology (which by many scientists were considered mostly completed and the continuation of the research was considered unpromising). General topology is the basis of algebraic and differential topology, mathematical and functional analysis, that is, a "good" half of modern mathematics, as well as physics, engineering, apparently also economics and, possibly[2], statistics. • The generalization of the limit opens up tremendous possibilities in mathematical and functional analysis, which is the base for physics, engineering, economics, etc. It is not excluded (and in the author's opinion it is very likely) that future physics will be entirely based on the concept of a generalized limit introduced by the author. It is viable to suppose that the discovery of discontinuous analysis by the author is as important as the discovery of (continuous and differentiable) mathematical analysis by Isaac Newton. • The axiomatic description of formulas, perhaps (this issue has not yet been investigated), makes it possible to describe the whole electronic circuit as one “whole” formula, which means, perhaps, it will open up new methods for designing microcircuits, their optimization and expanding capabilities. It is not excluded (and in the opinion of the author it is very likely) that future electronics will be entirely based on the author's theory of formulas. The same can be applied to other areas of computer science. 4 What the lack of formulas can lead to It is a known fact [3] that mathematics is in a sense like a building, consisting of more fundamental parts and "superstructures" that cannot be built without a foundation. However, some parts mutually support each other. But in general, the division into more fundamental and less fundamental parts of mathematics clearly makes sense (although, apparently, still poorly researched and defined). Be that as it may, my mathematical research clearly belongs to the "foundation". The absence of a part of the foundation makes further "construction" extremely difficult, makes it hopeless, virtually impossible in some future. Let me give you an analogy: As you know, in a modern TV set there are several billions transistors, a failure of even one of them can lead to a complete lack of TV functionality. Another analogy: one "wrong" base in DNA can lead to deformity or death of a biological organism. Based on modern ideas about the building of mathematics, as well as the above analogies, it seems scientifically justified to assume that absence, for some reason, of even one fundamental formula in the culture of a country may lead to its catastrophic lag in development (economic dependence, slavery, military defeat, disappearance) in the future. Speaking about the future, it is natural to expect that this can happen within several decades (I remind you that the speed of development of technology and science tends to accelerate exponentially!) 5 "Cultist" Sect concept The concept of a sect is not a scientific term and is used mainly by propagandists in order to speak offensively about someone. In Russia, however, even the so-called religious scholars are actively conducting anti-sectarian propaganda [4], which, according to the author, is nothing more than a state-funded pseudoscience. However, some give this concept a more or less scientific definition “a sect is a closed religious group opposing itself to the main culture-forming religious community (or the main communities) of a country or region” [5] . This definition does not conform to the generally accepted one ("a religious, political, philosophical or other group, sometimes separated from the mainstream and opposing it, or an indication of an organized tradition that has its founder and a special teaching" [6]), but more accurately reflects the use of this word among the people and "anti-sectarian" propagandists. "Confession" of the author I am a Protestant. First I became a Baptist, then I transferred to the Church of Christians of the Evangelical Faith. Now I profess a new religion [7], that emerged as a reaction to religious discrimination. I believed that I should openly declare my faith: (Luke 9: 6) "For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of man will be ashamed when he comes in his glory both of the Father and the holy angels" and (Mark 8:38) "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of His Father with the holy Angels." Moreover, I "abbreviated" my confession: "I am a sectarian," "I am a religious fanatic." I considered the word "sectarian" as one of Christ's words, because the Gospel, 2 Cor. 6:17 contains the word "separate," the Greek root of which has the same meaning as the root of the word "sectarian." I considered the word “fanatic” one of Christ’s words, because the Bible says (Rev. 3:19) “be zealous”, and “jealous” and “fanatic” are words with a root similar meaning. Since Jesus demanded to confess his words "in this adulterous and sinful generation," I considered it necessary to use the word "sect", and not the words about "Protestant" that are incomprehensible to the majority of the "adulterous and sinful generation" [of Russians]. I propose to conduct a scientific experiment (it can be dangerous to the life and health of the experimenter!) : Write the word "sectarian" on a cap or T-shirt and try to enter some [Russian] institution or other room with people. The hypothesis is that you will not succeed. According to the author, as punishment for "sectarianism" his mother stopped feeding him, hit him several times (at intervals of several days or weeks) with a frying pan by the head, and then kicked him out of the house (the mother does not remember this, we consider each other to be people with memory problems). Claiming that he is a sectarian and religious fanatic and calling people "sinners" the author could not get any help and continued to die of hunger. The author ate grass on the street (by the way, my first new formula, the definition of funcoid, was discovered precisely after such a "meal"[3]). Then my mother, for some unknown reason (perhaps her brain was overloaded with excessive anger and she lost her memory or she was afraid of criminal liability), allowed me to return to the apartment and provided me with enough food to survive. In general, during his studies in high school and university, the author was on the verge of starving to death several times and experienced other hardships (for example, sometimes lack of paper). I had to stop studying at the university, mainly in order to be recognized as mentally disabled and not starve to death due to the inability to find a job. In short, I have at the initiative of Jesus blocked my sense of shame, that protects people from discrimination and probable death from starvation because of discrimination. 6 Features of the author's religion Some of the author's public statements: • On August 8, 1995 I was instantly healed by Christ from severe delirium, hallucinations and fits of anger, loss of the ability to read and count. • To save my formulas and punish the “fascists” (see below) I began to pray and make wishes about a thermonuclear war with the aim of destroying Russia. During the "war" to destabilize the situation in the world to create an opportunity for an attack on Russia, I said "Destroy two skyscrapers [in the USA]" by airplanes), which happened later. • For the fact that people (and religious organizations) did not accept my statement that the Old Testament should be read without vocalizations[4], and “punished” me with hunger and other hardships, said “let there be coronavirus” and other (more terrible) curses. • Engaged in astral sex with St. Mary with the aim of offending Russia ("fuck His mother" is a famous Russian curse) lead so by God. • (Mistakenly) predicted the destruction of Perm by nuclear weapons as punishment for the fact that the love with Maria was not recognized. Then I walked around the city and shouted "Russian animals, Christ has decided to kill you, nuclear war is coming soon!" • I consider all people to be freaks infected with a virus that affects the brain . • I argue that a period of about a month or two has been temporarily healed from the virus and turned into a superhero (with a brain-computer superior to the rest of humanity, gigantic strength and speed, as well as other superpowers). Thus, it is clear that my conflict with the Russian society in a sense has reached an extreme form. In my opinion, even the "Osama bin Laden’s formula" (if such one existed) would be a lesser threat to Russia than I, because Osama bin Laden belonged to the "traditional" [I refer to wording of a Russian legal law] religion (Islam), which means it is less "terrible" for Russians than I am, a person of a "non-traditional" religion ("sect" in the Russian vernacular). It's just that Osama bin Laden is less despised than me, and it is contempt that is dangerous. This is the case when the threat of the use of nuclear weapons (regardless of its reality) can be as dangerous for the economy of a country as its actual use. 7 The analogy with Nazi Germany The analogy to fascist Germany is obvious. Similarities and differences: • Important fundamental scientific discoveries. • The author belongs to a social group hated by the people. • Einstein was persecuted on a national basis, and I on a religious basis. • The persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany was reflected in official documents, the persecution of "sectarians" (primarily Protestants) in Russia is not officially recognized. • Einstein's discoveries relate to physics, mine to abstract mathematics. • Einstein discovered SRT, when the discovery was "ripe", I discovered funcoids about 60 years later than it was possible to do. • If Einstein had not been able to leave in time and ended up in a death camp, he probably would have suffered less than me, because in death camps they did not beat them by the head with pans, but only did not feed them. Open-ended question: How many Protestants have starved to death in post-Soviet Russia due to religious discrimination? It is a well-known fact that a person "caught" in sectarianism is usually fired from his job, and people without work often die of hunger. As I already wrote, it is worthwhile for an experiment (dangerous for the life and health of the experimenter!) To write the word “sectarian” on a T-shirt or cap and try to enter some institution. If this fails, the experiment will confirm my personal experience of the analogy "Dogs and sectarians are not allowed in" with Nazi Germany. In fascist Germany, the "problem" with Einstein was "solved" by the proclamation that SRT was discovered by "Aryan" scientists. In modern Russia, such a measure is impossible due to the prevalence of the Internet, including the blockchain, in which it is recorded that I am the discoverer of these theories. 8 Attempt at psychoanalysis I confess that I am not an educated psychologist or psychoanalyst, but due to the lack of other research on this topic, I will state my opinion on whether Russia may be deprived of my formulas. One should distinguish between conscience and shame [8] : The difference between shame and guilt is that guilt arises when a person has repented for what he did. That is, it became unpleasant for him that he had done this act. This is an internal state. At this moment, a person usually lowers his head, goes inside himself and begins to experience emotions. Shame arises only when there are witnesses. This is a feeling of fear of being rejected, not accepted by society. Shame can arise when we are different from others. The shame of Russians in front of sectarians is definitely not conscience, it is closer to shame; perhaps a more accurate word is contempt. Judging from my experience, most Russians despise sectarians precisely because we do not drink, do not sleep with other people's wives, etc. For this we are despised. This can be a sublimated conscience, namely the transfer of one's own pangs of conscience to the shame of another object (sectarian) in order to get rid of the pangs of conscience. Shame and contempt are often strong feelings: judging from my experience, the degree of contempt for sectarians, apparently, reaches a numerical overflow in the brain: people start screaming (including insults), fight, in general, react inadequately when they come to the conclusion, that interact with the "sectarian". In my opinion, these strong feelings and the supposed numerical overflow in the brain caused by these feelings pose a threat to Russia as a power. The desire to get rid of everything connected with the object of hatred and contempt by the "sect" can outweigh rational motives and lead to the suppression of my formulas in Russia by certain information dissemination agencies, which means a catastrophic lag in Russia. Thus, in this case, shame has become a serious pathology of Russian society. This is very similar to an allergy: society rejects its own members. An example of this pathology is that the judge Solopova Olga has not opened a civil case, when I filed a claim for compensation. Thus, it has been proven that the shame of sectarianism can outweigh the requirements of Russian and international legislation. As a treatment for pathological shame and contempt, I propose to supplant them with conscience. In other words, Russian society must recognize discrimination, the killing of Protestants by hunger. The disease is serious and the treatment should be radical: it is necessary at the highest level, to use the word "fascism" and "genocid" to describe the attitude of Russians to the "sectarians". Perhaps it makes sense to apply the same legal norms to the “concept” of “sect” as to the “concept” of “Jew”. It should be officially recognized that the ROC was actually a state church and, accordingly, the illegality of the existing state funding of religious propaganda. The activation of conscience (in order to mitigate the shame) must be accompanied by concrete actions (payment of compensation), otherwise the ousting of shame may become unstable and Russia will perish. 9 Analogy with the Roman Empire The author also puts forward the following scientific hypothesis about the reasons for the death of the Roman Empire: Jesus, called Christ, set the goal of destroying the Roman Empire in order to liberate Israel, which it conquered at that time. He came up with an ingenious plan: he gave the students highly moral (in the sense, beneficial for a society that observes them) commandments and such life principles that they were to be hated by the Romans. As a result, everything Christian, including Christian morality and the works of Christian philosophers, were rejected by the Romans. In accordance with Jesus' plan, this led to the degradation of Roman morality and philosophy. Literally, the demoralized Roman society was unable to resist the barbarians, whose development was not to the same extent limited (In the author's opinion, the persecution of Christians by the barbarians was not as significant as the “persecution of Christians by barbarians” (in Russian language) gives only four results in Google as of 12 Dec 2020, with at least two of them referring to the irrelevantly late date, 476). It should be noted that the Christianization of the Roman Empire (if the word “Christianity” is appropriate here, since the later religion of the Roman Empire had little to do with the teachings of such figures as Jesus and the Apostle Paul) did not lead to an improvement in the attitude of the Romans towards Israel: Judging by the surviving written records, starting from the II century, anti-Judaism in the Christian environment increased. Characteristic are the Epistle of Barnabas, the Word about the Passover of Meliton of Sardis, and later some passages from the works of John Chrysostom, Ambrose of Mediolan and some others. A specific feature of Christian anti-Judaism was the repeated accusation of the Jews of Deicide from the very beginning of its existence. Their other "crimes" were also named - their stubborn and malicious rejection of Christ and his teachings, lifestyle and lifestyle, profanation of Holy Communion, poisoning of wells, ritual murders, creating a direct threat to the spiritual and physical life of Christians. It was argued that the Jews, as a people accursed and punished by God, should be doomed to a “humiliating way of life” (Blessed Augustine) in order to become witnesses of the truth of Christianity. ... After the Edict of Milan (313) by the emperors Constantine and Licinius, who proclaimed a policy of official tolerance towards Christians, the influence of the Church in the empire steadily increased. The formation of the Church as a state institution entailed social discrimination against Jews, persecutions and pogroms committed by Christians with the blessing of the Church or inspired by the church hierarchy. So, according to Jesus' supposed plan, the destruction of the Roman Empire was still necessary. Will the fate of the Roman Empire come to Russia, too? We are witnessing a terrible loss of morality by Russians: the meaning of life for most of them is pleasure or personal money, theft is considered a virtue, almost all television movies about how Machiavellians do evil, and in fact are propaganda of evil. Usually, those who call themselves Orthodox simply observe religious rites in order to increase their "karma", without any purpose to serve God or do good, and are quite ready to go over to the side of the devil if he pays more (they are Satanists in accordance with the section "Satanism as a subculture» article [9]). The author assumes that the reason for this is hatred of "sectarian" morality, which, as you know, includes the rejection of theft, drunkenness, fights, swearing, etc. Bibliography 1: Victor Porton, Algebraic General Topology, 2019 2: Victor Porton, Axiomatic Theory of Formulas, 2020 3: авторы Википедии, Основания математики, 13 октября 2020 05:10 UTC, https://ru.wikipedia.org/?curid=2509222&oldid=109846469 4: Дворкин А. All the writing services claim to provide customers with the same benefits: plagiarism free paper, confidentiality guarantee, free revisions, 24/7 customer support. That's why it's quite difficult to guess the quality of the service. The only one way to check it, is a test drive! So lets start! I hope that my humble experience with this service will help you to decide if this site is what you've been looking for. When I googled this service I didn't find any reviews and feedback, so I started my own digging.
First impression
This is a prepaid service which means that you pay in advance, so I had to read all the legal pages carefully to be sure that I won't be scammed.
Despite the domain name of the service MyAdmissionsEssay it provides all the types of writing services, not only admissions: essays, articles, term papers, research papers, bibliography, dissertations, etc. It may also help you with the proofreading and editing.
My first impression was that the boy on the homepage is sooooo desperate that I have to help him with his homework asap lol. I decided to check if this grizzler has been handling his desperate head before and went to web.archive.org. Web archive is a service that stores screenshots of 445 millions on pages and sites. This free service is my sword-arm, it's absolutely inevitable for such little investigations like this one. As far as I can see the design is quite new on this site. And it's much better than the previous one.
📷
Prices and quality
The prices of MyAdmissions services starts at $9 per essay which is quite cheap, that's a good price, so I can make a testing order without extra expenses. Check the prices:
Unlike most of writing services MyAdmissionsEssay provides you with the 100% refund in some cases and 50% of refund if there is no writer for your free revision.
Today is the 18th of November and I ordered my testing paper to check the quality of this writing service. I a going to get it on 20th of November so I will update this post with the results!
I recommend this site to everyone. My order was delivered immediately and the price was great. Really passionate writer!
Thank you so much!
I would also recommend you to check the price at the services you are going to use:
  1. Check if the price is for 275 words! Some service cheat by displaying a little bit prices for 250 words then their competitors for 275 words! As a result you pay more!
  2. Check the price table before ordering the paper, because the order form usually has a bachelor level by default, which is more expensive for the essay. Just choose the other lever and the price will be much lower.
  3. Also, a little lifehack: whatever service you will choose, always ask the support for the discount. They always give
📷
Feel free to contact me if you need a discount coupon for the essay writing service. I have almost all of them.

Study tips that have *actually* helped me (Finals week, anyone?)

(this post will be kinda long so I'll put TL;DRs (in bold) at the end of each section/long paragraph).
I'll preface this by saying that I have always been a (mostly) straight A student. However, I have always relied on being smart, and if I were relying solely on organizational skills, motivation, and proper study techniques, I probably would have nearly failed high school and college. I'm sure many of you relate, but I have always relied on the "fuck this thing is due in 4 hours fuck fuck FUCK" to get my shit done. I'm grateful for my recent diagnosis and prescription because the feeling of "I have so many free hours in my week to get things done but I just don't" is demoralizing as fuck.
Anyway, I've read literally *so* *fucking* *many* articles and posts about productivity, organization, proper study habits, etc., that I could probably write a book on them, but I can't execute most of them to save my life. However, there are a handful that I've come across that have genuinely made studying so much easier for me. Here they are!
TL;DR: I'm a smart college gal with ADHD. I also have some study tips that may actually help.

WHERE TO STUDY(This one is kinda cliche, but I still want to include it). Study in a place that has few distractions. What constitutes a "distraction" will vary from person to person. The one place I absolutely cannot study is my house (why read a book when I can pet my adorable cat instead? His name is Tommy and he is orange. I love him so much).
I like my school library the best because 1) there's no obligation that I purchase something, like at a coffee shop, 2) there are two quiet floors 3) being around other students like, kinda holds me accountable to actually do my work.
Also, I leave my phone in my car when I study at my school library, unless I'm going to class immediately after.
TL;DR: Cliche, but study in a place with few distractions. For me, that is the quiet floor of my school library, with my phone in my car or turned off in my backpack.

SUPPLIES TO BRING
  1. Write down all of the things you need to study fostuff you need to get done. Then write down the materials you will need for them. (NOTE: I recommend writing down when you need to get said thing done and how long you expect it to take you. This makes it easier to prioritize. For example, I have a small paper due on Monday, but a huge research paper due Tuesday. Even though I have more time to do the Tuesday task, I know it will take longer, so I am going to do that one first. For really large tasks, like a research paper, break it up into smaller segments, and treat those individual segments like their own task).
  2. Your study materials, obviously (books, laptop, notebook)
  3. A pair of headphones
  4. A device in which to hook up your headphones (laptop, phone, iPod, etc)
  5. A scrap sheet of paper
  6. Something to write with
TL;DR: Bring a list of what you need to do (and supplies/materials you need to do it, and when you need to do it by), your study materials, headphones, electronic device to hook up headphones, scrap sheet of paper, and something to write with.

HOW TO STUDY
Truthfully, I don't always use this study technique (that I'm about to tell you). It isn't because it's not a good technique, it's because I still have shitty motivation and executive functioning. Getting my ass to the library is the hardest part. Literally so fucking hard. The times that I have used it, though, it worked pretty damn well. Just wanted to say that because even though this is a good and realistic technique, it isn't foolproof. I still have ADHD.
TL;DR: This is a good technique, but isn't a cure all. ADHD still sucks.

Alright, so here is what you do:
  1. Go to your study place.
  2. Put out all of your necessary materials. This could be your notes, textbook, websites that you'll need, etc. (NOTE: If you have multiple tasks you need to do, I recommend just starting with the first/most important tasks and only put out the materials you need for that one).
  3. Get out your headphones and plug them in (or Bluetooth sync) to your laptop or phone (I almost solely use my laptop for studying, but if you won't be bringing your laptop, then bring your phone or iPod).
  4. Pull up a brown noise track on Youtube. I know this sounds stupid, but trust me. This helps me so much. Having something innocuous occupy another part of my brain helps limit distractions. This is the specific video that I use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcWgjCDPiP4&t=3393s. It's very smooth and isn't all staticky like some of them are. However, if you won't have your laptop, look up "brown/pink/white noise" on whatever streaming platform you use, and then sample a handful of them until you find a particular track that works for you (i.e., something that can occupy your brain to drown out distracting thoughts w/o being distracting itself). For me, it has to be something with a consistent sound (lofi beats don't work for this reason), and that doesn't get quieter at the end before it loops. If you're using a track from Spotify/Apple Music, etc, have it saved or downloaded before studying. TL;DR: Brown noise will help drown out distracting noises and thoughts. Click the Youtube link in the paragraph for my favorite one.
  5. Pomodoro method. Hear me out! I know y'all have probably heard of this technique before: 25 minutes working, 5 minute break, then 10-15 minute break after around four rounds. However, in combination with the other tips, I really think this is helpful. Here is a website with a pomodoro timer: https://tomato-timer.com/. If the 25-5-10 isn't an ideal interval for you, you can customize the timer in the settings tab. Ideally, your "work" time should be the maximum amount of time you can work without being overwhelmed by mental distractions (this could be as low as 10 minutes or as high as 30-40, but I wouldn't go higher than that; my sweet spot is around 15-20 minutes). Your "break" time should be the minimum amount of time you need to mentally recharge without getting sucked into another distraction (again, this could be as low as 1-2 minutes, or as high as 7-8, but I wouldn't go higher than that. I like 5 minutes). As for the longer break after four rounds, that's really up to you. If I'm on a roll and getting shit done, then I prefer to just keep going until my productivity begins to suffer. TL;DR: The pomodoro method: 25 minutes of working, 5 minutes break, then a 10-15 minute break after 4-5 rounds. Click the link in the paragraph for a timer. You can customize the timer if the 25-5-10 interval isn't ideal for you).
  6. Okay, this is honestly my favorite part. Get out a scrap sheet of paper and a writing utensil. This is the sheet of paper where you are going to write any distracting thoughts. For example, let's say you're reading an article for school about the Second Wave Feminist movement. Perhaps while you're reading, the author mentions something about a First Wave Feminist reformer, and you think, "Oh, I need to look up some articles about that person, too!" No. Write it down on your paper. Or, maybe your thought is completely unrelated to the task at hand, such as "I need to email X about Y". Write that one down, too (if it's a persistent thought that keeps bugging you, that is, like something you're afraid you'll forget if you don't do it that moment. I won't write down passing thoughts like "I'm going to eat my leftover chili for dinner"). Obviously, in some cases, you may actually need to look something up in that moment, like the definition of an unknown word. TL;DR: Get a sheet of paper and pencil. Write down any "I need to do this now before I forget"/"Ooh I should Google this concept/idea for my assignment" thoughts on that paper. It's written down now, so you will not forget it.
  7. During your five minute break (or 2 minute, or 7, whatever) you can Google that random question that popped in your head, or you can stand up and walk around, stretch, eat a granola bar, etc. One thing I will caution you of: If you're going to use your break-time to do something on your "mental distraction that came up" list, be mindful not to do something that would take longer than your allotted break-time. Referring to the examples in the former paragraph, 5 minutes probably wouldn't be enough time to look up articles about a First Wave Feminist reformer, but it may be enough time to send a quick email. TL;DR: Use your break-time to tend to those distracting thoughts you wrote down on your paper, but only if you can do so without going over your break time. You could also just stretch or eat.
SMALL TIPS ON READING
I'm a Sociology major, so about 99% of my school assignments involve reading or writing. If this doesn't apply to you, then skip this section.
Concentrating on reading is really hard for me, and truthfully, the best method is to simply read the least amount of material while still getting the necessary info.
  1. Reading a journal article for class? Around 20-40% of the paper is shit you don't need to know. Read the abstract, skim the introduction, skip the methods section (unless your instructor specifies that you need to know the methodology), read the findings section, and skim the conclusion/discussion. Depending on the assignment, you can get away with only reading the abstract and findings. (Just a side note: The abstract isn't really necessary, I just like it cause then you have an idea of what you're going to be reading). TL;DR: For academic journal articles, you can generally get away with only reading the "abstract" and "results/findings."
  2. I'm not a big fan of "read a section then write down a quick summary of what you read" because honestly, it is time consuming. Instead, I prefer to annotate. Did a certain part of the reading remind you of something else you've learned before? Write that down in the margins (or type it; I like Adobe Acrobat for reading PDFs for this reason). Is there a part of the reading that was a bit confusing and you want more clarification? Write that in the margins, too. For me, this keeps me focused and engaged with the reading, without wasting time on summarizing. A friend of mine told me that if you have 1-2 annotations per page, that means you are sufficiently engaged with the material. TL;DR: your readings to stay engaged. Aim for at least 1-2 per page.
  3. Textbooks tend to have lots of fluff, and unlike academic journal articles, are a bit harder to filter through. Generally, though, you can skip any of those extra boxes (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc). Try to skim through the beginning paragraphs of each section, too. Those are usually introductory fluff paragraphs.
  4. Read while "underlining" the text with a pen (not literally, but move the pen under the text like you're underlining it). This will help you read a little faster.
SMALL TIPS FOR WRITING
  1. Don't worry about formatting/grammaflow. Write first, edit later.
  2. I read in a FB group that writing in Comic Sans actually helps with writer's block. I haven't written something that would necessitate this since I've heard this tip, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Just change it back after, lmao.
  3. Plan out sections if you need to, but I don't like going too crazy with an outline. It just ends up being more trouble than it's worth, personally. However, if detailed outlines are your thing, don't let me stop you! Just not my cup of tea and I don't think they are all that necessary.
  4. If you need to write about articles or do a literature review, I prefer to start by doing an annotated bibliography (basically a 1-2 paragraph summary of each article) and then using that to synthesize the different articles and readings together.
  5. If you're doing a research paper that requires lots of annotations, DOWNLOAD ZOTERO AND ADD THE EXTENSION TO YOUR WEB BROWSER. Basically, it's a software where you can save all of your websites, journal articles, etc. When you have the desktop app open, you can then use the Browser extension (after downloading, there will be a small button at the top of each website that says "save to zotero"). After saving, you can use Zotero to generate citations for each article. And they have one for every field. NOTE: If you already have the articles saved, though, it may be more trouble than it's worth to go back and save them to Zotero. But definitely use it for all future online readings.

Alright, y'all. I know this post was long, but I really hope a couple of these tips help someone! Everyone is different in what helps them of course, but I've been sick of seeing the same old tips everywhere that never actually helped me.
Happy studying and good luck on finals!

[ENG 102: Annotated bibliography] Can you guys let me know if this is correct or is it too brief?

Nhi Ngo
Ms. Grabiec
ENG 102
19 April 2020
Capital Punishment: An Annotated Bibliography
Thesis: Every citizen deserves a fair sentence and capital punishment is not a just reason to end an individual’s life.
Alexie, Sherman. “Capital Punishment.” Arguing about Literature: A Guide and Reader, 2nd ed.,
Bedford/St. Martins, 2020, p. 993-997
In “Capital Punishment,” author Sherman Alexie argue that any form of killing, whether if it decided due to the actions of the individual or by the state, can not be justified. Alexie also asserts that race plays a major role in capital punishment as well. In addition, Alexie believes that there is racial bias in the capital punishment system and that society needs to open their eyes to see that as well.
This poem is helpful in developing my thesis because Alexie projects how unjust the system is as race continues to influence the decisions being made. A death is a death, just because a person committed a crime, it does not make them any less of a person. Alexie argues that society should not hold the power to determine whether a person should live or die. Not only is killing unjust but a person’s race should not determine who they are as a person.
Will, George. “Capital Punishment’s Slow Death.” Arguing about Literature: A Guide and
Reader, 2nd ed., Bedford/St. Martins, 2020, p. 998-1000
In “Capital Punishment’s Slow Death”, George Will clearly presents three arguments to capital punishment. One, capital punishment promotes government infallibility which goes against conservatism. Two, once someone’s life is taken, it cannot be reversed. Three, capital punishment is losing the power to deter, or to discourage someone by using fear of the consequences.
George Will’s arguments support my thesis, especially when he stated that capital punishment fails to deter criminal acts. There have been many crimes committed that administration could not just put off and death was the ending resort. Will argues that this kind of action is dehumanizing and
Otis, Bill. “George Will’s Limp Case about the Death Penalty.” Arguing about Literature: A
Guide and Reader, 2nd ed., Bedford/St. Martins, 2020, p. 1000-1002
In “George Will’s Limp Case against the Death Penalty”, George Will believes that capital punishment is fading away, and that it goes against conservative beliefs. Otis states that he is wrong because what Conservatives understand best is balance. Conservatism is based around traditions and wanting to keep change from happening. In this case, capital punishment is what society wants to keep around.
Like George Will, I see the execution of a human being as a barrier to capital punishment, but this source argues against my thesis since conservatives do not see the execution of a human as a barrier, but as an “extremely serious cost” (Otis 1001).
Ogletree, Charles. “Condemned to Die Because He’s Black.” Arguing about Literature: A Guide
and Reader, 2nd ed., Bedford/St. Martins, 2020, p. 1003-1005
In “Condemned to Die Because He’s Black,” the author Charles Ogletree goes into detail about how Duane Buck, a black male, was not given a fair trial and sentenced to death because of his skin color. He asserts that race nor gender should be a factor in determining if an individual is worthy of the death penalty. Ogletree believes that society is blindsighted by racial discrimination that still lingers on in the criminal-justice system.
Ogletree’s arguments support my thesis statement because he shows that the criminal-justice system is unjust for sentencing colored men to death. He agrees that race clouds society’s judgement about an individual's profile. Racial fear and gender stereotypes is not a reason to put down someone’s life.
Rubric:
An annotated bibliography is a research tool that helps a writer to summarize a piece of writing in his/er own words and then make an educated evaluation about whether or not that particular piece of writing would be helpful for supporting a paper or a specific thesis on a topic.
Each entry should include:
For this assignment, you will decide if you would like to read through ideas on the TOPIC of Immigrants and American jobs or Capital Punishment in America. Once you pick a TOPIC, you will create a basic thesis (topic + your CLAIM on that topic). With your thesis in mind, you will go through the assigned readings -creating your Annotated Bibliography as outlined below.
For this exercise, stay general for your thesis; decide if you are pro or against the topic of your choice and create a thesis. For example (if you decided to go with immigrant/ jobs topic): “Immigrants take jobs Americans need.” (REMEMBER- STILL! ONLY WRITING IN THE THIRD PERSON! Still academic tone and writing level).
After you have created your personal thesis, follow the steps below:
Assignment:
  1. Read through the OWL Purdue Annotated Bibliography documents in the assignments (Annotated Bibliography) folder on the definition and creation of an annotated bibliography- taking the time to look at the sample below as well. Review the information available in ACHIEVE Week 13 Folder.
  2. Read through the assigned readings from the course plan related to your topic of marriage OR capital punishment. *These are the ONLY sources you will use for this assignment*
  3. Be sure to have a "summary" paragraph and a "this would/would not be useful" paragraph- as well as a working thesis listed just below the title. See the example attached below.
  4. Create an alphabetically ordered annotated bibliography that includes each piece of writing in the correct order and MLA 8 page-layout as outlined below: 550-650 words required (including citations)
  5. Each entry (total of four) should contain:
    1. MLA 8 Works Cited entry for the piece
    2. One paragraph summarizing the piece. This should include all the main ideas and what the author’s purpose appears to be for the piece (50-75 words depending on the piece).
      1. Give 1-2 direct quote snippets as specific examples for your thoughts.
    3. One evaluation paragraph that starts with “This (essay/poem/etc) would/would not be helpful to the research because…” This paragraph may be written in the first person. (50-75 words depending on the piece).

Example Format:

Dilbert: An Annotated Bibliography
Thesis: All animals crave monogamy as part of genetic make-up and the need to belong with society at large.
Adams, Scott. “Live and Love in Humankind.” Collection of the Bizzare Anthology, edited by Sylvan Barnet and Hugo Bedau, 9th ed., Bedford/St. Martin, 2019, p. 23-27.📷
Scott Adams deeply justifies the need for monogamy in the social circles of the spider. Not only do they live, but they breathe the life of their partner....(continue on with this as much as needed to properly summarize).
This article is very useful for my thesis as Adams even comments, “The spider, quite a bit lower on the evolutionary scale even understands the basic need for belonging” (45).
Faulkner, William. “A Rose for Emily.” Collection of the Bizzare Anthology, edited by Sylvan Barnet and Hugo Bedau, 9th ed., Bedford/St. Martin, 2019, p. 334-355.📷
Due to the format for this assignment, an additional Works Cited page is not required.
